Here is the 2nd part of my birthday book haul. I went to the Friends of the Dallas Public Library Book Sale with my momma and son and here are the few (many) things that I picked up.
More Than This by Patrick Ness – I have been meaning to pick up a Patrick Ness book and I have heard good things about this one. Plus it was $1, so….
The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima – I “needed” a few more fantasies on my shelf so I thought, why not this one. I have heard this reviewed on several Booktube channels and I thought this would be perfect.
The Search for Wondla by Tony DiTerlizzi – I love middle grade, even when i’m not pre-reading it for my son. This sounds like an awesome middle grade story and the illustrations throughout had me captivated.
It’s Kinda a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini – I think this has to do with a man with mental illness. I don’t know much about it but I’m ready to enjoy it.
News from Home by Sefi Atta – This is a short story collection and I want to read more of these in the fall when things get just a tad bit crazy at our house.
Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier – I don’t know a lot about this one but when I read the synopsis it sounded interesting and for $1, why not.
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon – I have been meeting to pick up something by Michael Chabon and I believe this is one of his more famous novels.
Dollface: A Novel of the Roaring Twenties by Renee Rosen – I LOVE things that deal with flapper culture and the 1920’s so this was perfect.
Spell Bound by Kelley Armstrong – I have been wanting to get into paranormal romances and from what I understand Kelley Armstrong is one of the best. Unfortunately for me, this book just happens to be the last in the series so, there’s that.
And the last books I picked up this month are either from when I went to Half Price Books for #bookloverday and my Book of the Month picks for August.
Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett – I have been wanting to get into Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series and this one was recommended as a good place to start.
Do You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare – Tessa Dare has intrigued me recently because she, apparently, writes romance novels with a feminist undercurrent. I am about that life!
My two Book of the Month picks were:
Fierce Kingdom by Gin Phillips – One of my good friends picked this too and she said it was such a fast read that I needed to read this in one sitting. This is an intense thriller about a mother trying to protect her child.
Little & Lion by Brandy Colbert – This is a YA novel about a brother and sister. The brother was just recently diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder and the sister comes home to visit. I think there’s something about them both falling in love with the same girl, who isn’t very good for either of them. I don’t know, but the synopsis sounded interesting.
That wraps up all of the books that I picked up in August. Since I went to library sales I ended up spending maybe right around $50 for everything included in both hauls so I’m not really mad at that.
What did you pick up this month? What should I read first? Let me know in the comments.
Much Love,
Tasha
