Review: Lumberjanes: Unicorn Power

Lumberjanes: Unicorn Power! (Lumberjanes, #1)

Hey y’all! I am here today, after a considerable break, to talk about Lumberjanes: Unicorn Power by Mariko Tamaki and illustrated by Brooklyn Allen.  Lumberjanes is a comic/graphic novel series which follows a group of girl at a camp.  The graphic novel series is one of my favorites and I was excited to receive an ARC of the novelization of the comic from Netgalley and Abrams Kids.

The story starts with the April, Mal, Molly, Jo, and my personal favorite, Ripley as the encounter a unicorn in the woods.  They follow said unicorn and come across a field of them and a mysterious mountain.  The adventure takes off from there.

I really enjoyed this book. Having a frame of reference for the characters was great because I already knew them.  The book really fleshes out the characters.  The  writing was definitely perfect for the targeted audience and the story was fleshed out, ridiculous, and fun.

I would say that you should at least read a few volumes of the graphic novel before starting this book because I feel the book assumes that you are familiar with the Lumberjanes world.

Although, this wasn’t my favorite middle grade story, I did enjoy it and I will probably pick up additional books once they come out.  The way the book ended leads me to believe that there will definitely be additional books and I will pick them up.

Have you read this book?  What did you think? Have you read the Lumberjanes graphic novel series?  Let’s chat in the comments.

******I received this book from Netgally in exchanged for an honest review.  All opinions expressed are my own.**********

Much Love,
