Review: My New Crush Gave to Me

Hey y’all! As you know I have been really into reading cute, Christmasy contemporaries and I have just recently finished another one. My New Crush Gave to Me by Shani Petroff.

Synopsis:

Charlie is a perfectionist who is kind of nerdy and has a crush on the star football player, Teo. She develops a scheme to rig the newspaper’s Secret Santa  and with the help of Teo’s cousin J.D. she wants to win over Teo. But is Teo who she really wants?

My thoughts:

This book was adorable. It similarly to Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe and Kiss Me in New York reads like a Hallmark movie.  I enjoyed Charlie as a character and J.D. was hilarious throughout the book.  Another thing I enjoyed about this book was how realistic the teenage characters were written.  There were actual parents in the book who cared and the mention of teenage drinking was not romanticized, which I really appreciated as an adult reading the book.

The main con was the predictability of the plot.  At about 30% in I had figured out the direction that the book was going. This, surprisingly, did not take away my enjoyment of the book.  I would absolutely read it again.

Overall, I would recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a cute, Christmas contemporary.  Something to curl up in a chair with a cup of hot chocolate.

****I received this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.*****

Have you read this? What did you think? Let’s chat in the comments.

Much Love,

Tasha
