Hey y’all! I’m sorry about not posting yesterday. Work has been super busy and I was exhausted yesterday when I got home. Anyway, here is a list of book series that I want to finish. I have split it into ongoing series and finished series.
The Diviners by Libba Bray (The Diviners; Lair of Dreams; Before the Devil Breaks You; Read 1; at least one more to be released) – I have gushed about this series before but I haven’t been able to continue because the books are large and I want to invest time in them and not rush it. I have the second on audiobook and I may just listen to that soon.
This is a paranormal series where a group is formed called The Diviners and the combat evil. It’s set in the 1920’s and the main character in the first book is Evie, who can touch objects and tell the history of it. I loved how intelligently The Diviners was written and I have gushed a lot about Libba Bray so I won’t do it again here. In short, I LOVE her writing.
Themis Files by Sylvain Neuvel (Sleeping Giants, Waking Gods, and Only Human (releasing May 1, 2018); Read 1) – This is the story of Rose Franklin who discovers this giant metal hand in her hometown when she is a little girl. Years later the mystery of the hand is brought up again and she must work on the project of this mysterious object. Drama and political intrigue ensue.
This book was so interesting in the format because it’s told in interviews. We have an unnamed interviewer who is cunning and kinda scary. Through these interviews we get to really know the characters and I was invested in all of them. I haven’t picked up the next one yet but I can’t wait to dive back in this world.
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake (Three Dark Crowns, One Dark Thrones, The Oracle Queen (bind-up novellas releasing April 3, 2018) and then 2 more novels coming out; Read 2 books) – Man I did not expect to love these books as much as I did! The story is in a matriarchal society where each queen carries a set of triplets. When the triplets are about 6 years old, they are separated until they are 16 and then the Ascension Year starts and they must kill each other. The queen left standing is the one who will get the throne.
These books are so addictive. I listened to Three Dark Crowns on audio and I loved the story. Kendare Blake is an intelligent writer and I just love the way she let the story unfold Three Dark Crowns is a slow burn book, but it is absolutely necessary. You really get to explore the island and get to know the world and the various queens. One Dark Throne is action packed and in the last 100 pages I think I screamed “OMG!” like 10 times. It was fantastic. I can’t wait for the novellas and the remaining two books.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan (The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian; Read 3) – These books follow Percy Jackson who is a demi-god and in the first book he is swept in the world of Olympians and other demi-gods. These are middle grade book and my son and I listened to book 2 and 3 on audiobook. I really enjoy these books, the humor is for a younger audience but I still enjoyed it. It explores Greek mythology, friendship, and growing up. I love the ADHD representation in this book and my son did too. These are fun books but I will admit they aren’t for everyone.
Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab (A Darker Shade of Magic, A Gathering of Shadows, and A Conjuring of Light; read 2) – I know that there are suppose to be more books released in this world but, I am considering these three a completed trilogy.
In these books there are 4 different parallel Londons that only special people can travel through to each. Kell is an Antari and can travel between each London. He is like a courier but he is also a smuggler. On one of his trips he smuggles something that he shouldn’t have and adventures happen. We also follow Leila who is a pirate like character. Admittedly, these are pretty middle of the road books, but there are certain characters that I’m all in for, so I do want to see their fates.
These are all of the series that I want to complete soon, so that I can start some new ones. Which of these series have you enjoyed? Which of these do you want to read? Let’s chat in the comments.
