Weekend Reads: January 5th

Hey y’all! Sorry for the late post, Mays and I were playing video games. LOL. Anyway, today I want to talk about what I plan on diving into this weekend. I should have a lot of time to read because we are having another lazy weekend. Here is what I am currently in the middle of:

Swing Time

Swing Time by Zadie Smith – This is my current audiobook listen. I’m enjoying it so far. I can relate to the main character and the toxic friendship that is in the story. The jealousy and admiration she has for her childhood best friend is something that seems ripped out of my life. Also, they are dancers which is something that I can relate to my own life. Zadie Smith has an awesome way with words and storytelling. It’s intelligent and nuanced. I’m really interested in seeing her other works.

Jane Steele

Jane Steele by Lindsay Faye – I have never read Jane Eyre but as I read this book, my desire to read this classic has been amped up. I’m enjoying the pacing of the story and I am really enjoying Jane. She should be someone who I totally dislike but I can see her redeeming qualities, plus she’s also kind of funny….for a serial killer. I’m in the portion of the book with her and Thornfield and I really like how their story is unfolding.

The Diabolic (The Diabolic, #1)

The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid – This is a YA fantasy where rich families hire Diabolics to protect their family. It’s interesting but it is slow.  I’m not that far in so I’m hoping once this one big event happens, the book will pick up.

That is pretty much all that I am actively reading at the moment. I’m hoping that I can finish my audiobook and Jane Steele over the weekend. What are you currently reading this weekend? What are you thinking about picking up? Let’s chat in the comments.
