Hey y’all! I love listening to audiobooks. Approximately 30% of my books read were consumed via audio. My favorite genres to listen to are young adult, biographies, and contemporaries. Today, I wanted to talk about some of my favorite audiobooks that I have listened to over the past couple of years.
The Diviners by Libby Bray, narrated by January LaVoy – This is an excellent audiobook! There is a reason everyone talks about this one. This was one of the first audiobooks that I listened to and it had my full attention. LaVoy is a whiz at voices and creating tension in her voice. This is definitely my most recommended audiobook.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, narrated by Rebecca Solar – These are also very good audiobooks. With this series I read two of the books physically and two of the books via audio. I found the audiobook listen was a more enjoyable read. The narrator was able to create the atmosphere and the sense of urgency that the story needs. I highly recommend these audiobooks.
The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo, narrated by the author – OMG! This is a short audiobook and the author reads it. I love audiobooks where the author reads them because you get the story exactly as the author intended for it to be read. This was no different. Acevedo made me feel like I was at a slam poetry reading. I don’t think the book would have had such an impact if I had just read the physical book.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series by Rick Riordan, narrated by Jesse Bernstein – I listened to these with my son and we had an blast while listening. The narrator’s voice was perfect for the story. A lot of times with middle grades, the narrator’s “child voice” is annoying, but this is not the case. Bernstein sounds just like a teenager without it being overdone. We thoroughly enjoyed these and will finish the series soon.
What makes a good audiobook for me is a narrator who engages me in the story, who is appropriate for the story and who can build tension when necessary. These suggestions are truly some of my favorites. I love audiobooks because when I’m at my job, which is inherently negative, I am able to be whisked away to another world. Also, this is an excellent way for me and my son to read together and talk about what we are reading.

Much Love,

I recently started getting into audiobooks and I love being able to listen to a book while I do something else. I totally agree about The Diviners and The Lunar Chronicles! I’ve been wanting to read Percy Jackson, so it’s good to hear that the audiobooks are great.

The Percy Jackson ones are really good. I believe it’s a different narrator for the Hero’s of Olympus series though.
