Hey y’all! I’m here with another TBR. I did this for the last quarter of 2018 and really liked it because it allowed me to have a stack of books that I didn’t necessarily want to read in the given month but they were books that kind of were calling to me on my shelf. I decided for 2019 that I would do this because these are all books that have been sitting on my shelf for so long and need to be read soon for one reason or another. Here are the eight books that I hope to read in the first quarter of 2019.
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray – I love Libba Bray for her intelligent writing and captivating stories. This takes place in the Victorian era and in a boarding school. It sounds like a recipe for success.
The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton – All of Jessie Burton’s books sound so good and this is the one that I own. I was reflecting on my reading from 2018 and I didn’t read as much literary fiction as I usually read and I found that I missed it. This seems like the perfect literary fiction for the winter months.
Middlemarch by George Eliot – I looked through my reading for 2018 and I had only read one classic. While I’m not a huge classic reader, I do enjoy a good classic and this is suppose to be among the best of them.
Burial Rites by Hannah Kent – Hannah Kent is another writer who I really think I will enjoy. This is about the last woman to be executed in Iceland. It’s suppose to be atmospheric and engaging. I think I will really enjoy this one.
Beloved by Toni Morrison – This is Morrison’s most famous novel. I read one of her novels last year and I enjoyed the writing and the magical realism in the story. I’ve heard that this one is really eerie and I do love a good story set in the South.
The Rook by Daniel O’Malley – I don’t know why this keeps coming up but I see this book suggested to me everywhere. This is an adult fantasy, I believe, that follows a girl who wakes up with no recollection of who she is and a note from her self. I don’t know much else about it.
The Paying Guest by Sarah Waters – This is another author that I have been meaning to read and she has a huge backlist of books for me enjoy. I think this is about a couple who allows another couple to live in their house and the things that happen from there. It’s a big chunky book and this will help me achieve even more of my 2019 goals.
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen – This is literally the last Austen I need to read and for some reason I still haven’t read it. I’m going to treat myself to the BBC series but I gotta read the book first.
These are all of the books that I want to read within the first quarter of 2019. At the end of the quarter I would like to revisit this list and see what I actually read and if this is something that I should continue doing.
