Friday Reads: January 25 and 24 in 48 TBR stack

Hey y’all!! It’s time for another Friday Reads. This weekend I will be participating in the 24 in 48 Readathon, where the goal is to read 24 hours over a 48 hour time frame. I have participated before and usually hit around 12 hours which is my usual goal. Every time I get ready to participate in this readathon my seemingly dead weekend always turns out to be the busiest of the month and unsurprisingly that’s exactly what’s happened this time. Ah well, I think I can still hit 12 hours. Anyway, here is what I read this week and my book stack for over the weekend.

What I Finished:

The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton – This historical fiction blew me away. It follows Nella who had to leave her country town to move to Amsterdam with her new husband. She has to deal with his sister Marin and a distant husband who is much older than her. As a wedding gift, her husband, Johannes, gives her a cabinet dollhouse that is an exact replica of their current house and things start to happen when Nella reaches out to a Miniaturist. This book was eerie and shocking. I loved it and am so glad I read it.

More Than This by Patrick Ness – I listened to this on audio and I was so pleasantly surprised. I didn’t know the premise of the book and I think that’s the best way to go into it. At the beginning, Seth drowns in the ocean and then he wakes up in a new place. This book looked at afterlife and what’s real and what’s not and our perception of the world. I just loved the writing and the characters. The only thing that didn’t gel with me was the ending. I don’t mind an ambiguous ending but this was a bit too ambiguous.

What I’m Currently Reading:

The Strange Case of the Alchemist Daughter by Theodora Goss – I literally have about 75 pages left of this and hope to finish it at work today. This follows Mary Jekyll, yes that Jekyll, and the daughters of other classic mad scientist. I am LOVING this book and it’s definitely going a favorite. I can’t wait to finish this one and go on to the next book because I want to spend more time with the girls.

Jade City (The Green Bone Saga, #1)

Jade City by Fonda Lee – This is an adult high fantasy that is Asian inspired. I am about 13% through this book and hope to make it to 50% over the weekend. I am enjoying it so far but I am still learning all of the characters and nothing has really happened at this point.

24 in 48 TBR stack:

I won’t go into detail for all of these books and just link the Goodreads pages for them. Of course, I don’t expect to finish all of these over the weekend but I hope to make progress in most and finish at least one. These are all books I got from the library and others that have been on my mind.

Becoming by Michelle Obama
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
Mirage by Samaiya Daud
The Wizards of Once by Cressida Cowell
The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner
Girls Burn Brighter by Shobha Rao
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen

I also have a couple of ebooks on my kindle that I am in the process of reading or that I have out from the library that I really need to read.

Those are my lofty reading goals for the weekend of which I have something to do every evening. Anway, are you participating in 24 in 48? What are you reading this weekend? Let’s chat in the comments.
