Am I Now in the Shadowhunters Army?

Hey y’all! I recently finished the first three books in The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. This is the original trilogy in the vast Shadowhunter’s world and I thought that I would share my thoughts and whether I will be continuing. I, of course, have thoughts so lets talk about it.

The original Mortal Instruments series consist of City of Bones, City of Ashes, and City of Glass. We follow Clary Fray who is out with her friend one night when she sees something out of the ordinary. That’s where our journey really begins.

The books are very reminiscent of the time that they were initially written. They are simple and the plot moves at a steady clip. City of Ashes is actually the one that I liked the least. I don’t feel like there was much that happened in it, so I really didn’t care.

The thing that really stands out to me, without being spoliery, is a plot point that I felt carried waaaayyyy too long. It was a good plot twist to end the first book, but by the third book I felt that it should have been resolved much sooner. If anything, I thought that this one particular plot point should have been resolved by the end of the second book because it was a big distraction for me while reading City of Glass.

Now, can we all just talk about the treat that is Magnus Bane. Magnus is by far the best character. Also, I didn’t hate Clary but her decisions sometimes annoyed me. Jace was fine, his bad boy because I had a rough childhood persona wasn’t anything special.

Overall, the books were better than my expectations. However, I don’t think I’m a full fledged member of the Shadowhunter Army, but I could still be recruited.

How do you feel about The Mortal Instruments’ series? Let’s chat in the comments.
