Currently Reading: August 12, 2019

Hey y’all! If you’ve seen my twitter you will know that I have been feeling a little uninspired recently. I’m back now after taking a bit of a break. So I thought my first post back would be a currently reading. I have finally gotten my reading mojo back.

Recently finished:

I'm Not Dying with You Tonight

I’m Not Dying With You Tonight by Kimberly Jones and Gilly Segal – This is a young adult contemporary about an African American female and a White female who are at a high school football game when a fight and shooting breakout and they are working together to get away from the situation to safety. This book was okay. I didn’t love it because the characters were very much stereotypes and I found it at times over the top. The writing was fine and the girls had distinct voices. Overall, I think it was a good story but the execution left something to be desired.

The Raging Ones (The Raging Ones, #1)

The Raging Ones and The Last Hope by Krista and Becca Ritchie – This is book one and two in a YA sci-fi romance. I am on the blog tour for The Last Hope so I will be doing a full post for it. The story takes place on a planet that is in perpetual winter and also where people know the day they are going to die. The date of your death determines your class and place in society. We follow three characters who have dodged their death day and they don’t know why. The Raging Ones was a quick read that was fine but the story lacked a sense of urgency and tension with the characters. The plot had me wondering why a lot and I was compelled to continue reading to find answers. I will give a full review when I put up my The Last Hope review later this week. The Last Hope Releases tomorrow, August 13, from St. Martin’s Press.

What I’m Currently Reading:

Lacy Hart's Single Dad Romance Collection

Lacy Hart’s Single Dad Romance Collection – This is an ARC I received from Scarlet Lantern Publishing in exchange for an honest review. The collection consist of Burnt, Change-Up, and After Midnight. I received the audiobook for Burnt, also for review, so I completed the first story via audio. Burnt was an adorable second chance romance taking place in a small town. I’m currently in the middle of Change-Up, which is an age gap romance and I’m enjoying it. The stories so far have been more contemporary with a little bit of sexy time in them. This collection releases on August 14 from Scarlet Lantern Publishing.

Middlegame

Middlegame by Seanan McGuire – I started this on vacation, but had to put it down so that I could finish up some ARCs. From what I’ve read so far, I’m really enjoying the story and I’m intrigued where it is going.

Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2)

Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare – This is the second book in the Infernal Devices trilogy. I am still making my way through these books and this series is indeed become my favorite.

I am participating in the Read-a-thin Readathon and ARC August this month. When I wrap up at the end of the month, I will note which book fits for each one. In a strange plot twist, I have been staying on track with my TBR. Who would have thought.

Anyway, what are you currently reading? Let’s chat in the comments.
