Friday Reads, June 5

Hey y’all! It has been a week!! Between being glued to the protest and sharing on social media, my job being a whole mess, and my kid’s anxiety. Whew I am tired! But you better believe I will run myself into the ground shouting for my people. Welcome to all of the new followers. I’m so excited to have you and I hope you like my content. I have been being more active and I’m getting over my shyness with commenting on people’s blogs. Anyway, this was rambly and let’s see what I plan to read this weekend.

What I Finished: Yeah I didn’t finish anything this week.

What I’m currently reading:

Docile by K.M. Szpara – I’m a little under 200 pages in and I’m enjoying the story. Docile is a dystopian society where you can sell yourself to the rich as a servant to pay off your family’s debt. Elisha is our main character and he has signed a life contract with Alex, the inventor of Dociline, the drug that is given to Dociles to “help” them through servitude. Elisha makes the decision to not take Dociline and the story follows how Alex trains him to be a good Docile while he isn’t taking the drug and talks about the blurred lines that aer forming.

Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America
2016, Bold Type Books

Stamped from the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi – I am listening to this on audio through Scribd. I will probably finish it over the weekend but we will see. I’m just listening to this slowly so I can absorb all the information.

I also have books on my Goodreads “Currently Reading” shelf that I would like to finish. I’m being ambitious but I do have my reading mojo back so…we’ll see.

What I plan to read:

The Bromance Book Club (Bromance Book Club, #1)
2019, Berkley Romance

The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams – Okay y’all, I love book clubs but I always procrastinate reading the books. This was my pick for a book club I have with some friends and I still haven’t read it. I’m definitely starting it tonight and I hope that I can get this done quickly.

The Boyfriend Project
2020, Forever Romance

The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon – I have an ARC (advanced reader copy) of this and I got it early from book of the month. The release date is Tuesday, so I really want to get through it this weekend.
