Friday Reads, June 12 and #Throwbackathon TBR

Hey y’all!! Today I am coming here to talk about the books that I want to read over the weekend and give you my #Throwbackathon TBR. The #Throwbackathon is a readathon put on by the Black Prose Book Club and runs from June 15 – 21st and all the prompts, this round, are centered around Saturday Morning Cartoons.

What I finished this week:
The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams – I read this for my book club that I participate in and we really enjoyed it. It’s worth the read.

Docile by K.M. Szpara – I ended up really liking this book although the ending wasn’t my favorite. Docile is about a dystopian society where you can either become a Docile, essentially a slave, or go to debtor’s prison to pay off your debt.

The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon – This was a new release that follows Samirah who finds out that she has been catfished by her boyfriend. She meets up with the other girls that he was cheating with and they form a pact to work on themselves for the next six months. Unbenknowst to Samirah she would meet her new co-worker Daniel and fall in love. This was cute and I absolutely loved the grand gesture at the end. It was predictable but it was fine. ****** I received this as an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley. This did not in any way impact my review.******

What I’m currently reading:
Pet by Awaeke Emezi – I’ve only read the first chapter but I’m enjoying the writing style and the story.

White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide by Carol Anderson – I have only read the introduction and I can already tell that I am going to love this book. This is a part of the Blackout Buddy Read and I am lowkey participating and will probably be watching the live show.

#Throwbackathon TBR

A Song Below Water
2020, Tor Teen

Batman Beyond – Read a book where the main character has a secret identity or is hiding something majorA Song Below Water by Bethany C. Marrow – This is a mermaid story and from what I gather a siren is pretending to be a mermaid. I don’t want to know much else about the story.

(Im)perfectly Happy
2020, Kensington Publishing Company

Recess – Read a book surrounding a group of friends (Im)perfectly Happy by Sharina Harris – This is a romance that I am about 14% into and it’s about a group of friends who are trying to pursue their dreams after, for various reasons, they had to put them on the back burner. I am enjoying the story so far and it should be a quick read.

The Lady and Her Pirate Duke
2020, Scarlet Lantern Publishing

Rocko’s Modern Life – Read a book that YOU consider a guilty pleasure The Lady and Her Pirate Duke by Jilian Rouge – This is a historical romance that I don’t know much about, but my review is late and it’s guaranteed to be smutty.

The Kingdom of Copper (The Daevabad Trilogy, #2)
2019, Harper Voyager

Gargoyles – Read a book based on an ancient myth/mythology or history The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty – This is the second book in The Daevabad Trilogy and I am really trying to read this because the last book just came out and I want to finish the trilogy.

A River of Royal Blood (A River of Royal Blood, #1)
2019, Putnam

Doug – Read a coming of age story – This one is really up in the air but I think I’m gonna pick up A River or Royal Blood by Amanda Joy but it really could be anything, the way my ARCs are set up. LOL. We will see when I get to this prompt.

Here is everything that I will be attempting to read over the next week. I will also be participating in the Blackathon that starts on Juneteenth and runs for 48 hours. I have no idea what I’m going to pick up for that but I will let you know in next weeks Friday Reads.
