Friday Reads and Blackathon 2.5 TBR

Hey y’all! I really did have big plans to read this week buuuutttt I did a thing. I posted my first Booktube video and the anxiety from that had me shook! Thank you for all the support on the video and for subscribing to my channel. I really want to post consistently and have some great content for y’all. With that being said my #Throwbackathon isn’t going all that great and I haven’t finished anything.

Today is JUNETEENTH, in Texas we have always celebrate Juneteenth but this is the first year that I’ve seen it so widely celebrated and I love to see it. Juneteenth use to be a time where we would discuss Black history and enjoy cookouts at the park every year. It used to always be a big deal. I highly suggest that you look up what Juneteenth is, it’s such an interesting piece of history. With that being said it’s the start of the Queer Blackthon, 48 hour edition. The Blackathon was started by Jesse from Bowties and Books and is being hosted by them, Myonna from Myonna Reads, Lauryn from the Novel Lush, and Francina Simone, who’s debut novel, Smash It, comes out in September. (Go pre-order it) The goal for this readathon is to read Black Queer books for 48 hours. I am so excited for this and I, maybe, will vlog it. I don’t know if I’m ready for y’all to see how uneventful my life really is, LOL.

Well this was long winded but here’s my Friday Reads.

Books I’ve finished:
Pet by Awaeke Emezi – Y’all! A full review for this book should be up next week, but I absolutely LOVED this book. I could not put it down and I have so much to say about it.

Books I’m currently reading:
A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Marrow – This is one of two reads that I have got to for the #Throwbackathon. I’m about halfway through and will finish it on Sunday because I’m participating in Blackathon Friday and Saturday.

Imperfectly Happy by Sharina Harris – This book I have been reading for a minute and is on my #Throwbackathon TBR too. I am also about halfway through it and it’s okay. I like the female friendship and the story has kind of picked up. Imperfectly Happy is about a group of friends who after college gave up on their dreams and as they are all in their 30’s now they have decided to pick them back up.

Queer Blackathon TBR:

All Boys Aren't Blue
2020, Farrah, Straus and Giroux

All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson

You Should See Me in a Crown
2020, Scholastic Press

You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson

Cinderella Is Dead
2020, Bloomsbury YA

Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron

Next weeks TBR:

The Voting Booth by Brandy Colbert – This is her new release coming out on July 7th and I am so excited to get to it! I love her storytelling and her characters. This will be my 4th Brandy Colbert and I can’t wait to read her whole catalogue.

I think I’m going to leave the rest of my reading open. I’m in the middle of some ARCs that I put down for various reasons and I really want to get those completed. Also, I plan on participating in the Fantasyathon, low key, so we’ll see how that goes. Adding on Booktube has been exciting but I’m trying to figure out how to balance everything.

What are y’all reading this weekend? Let’s chat in the comments.
